Democrat Cory Booker and Republican Steve Lonegan attended a final debate on Wednesday, as the New Jersey’s special Senate election comes to a close. The two candidates battled on a variety of issues, such as: debt ceiling, abortion and gun crime.

Lonegan also referred to Booker’s City as a “big-black hole.”

“The taxpayers in the suburbs and rural areas of this state have been ripped off now for 30 years,” said Steve Lonegan, the former state director of Americans for Prosperity New Jersey. “They gave us a sales tax. They said that was going to cut property taxes. Then they passed an income tax and that was going to cut property taxes. All that income tax and sales tax money gets poured into the big black hole of Newark.”

According to USA Today, a recent poll shows that “Mayor Cory Booker, a nationally prominent Democrat, is leading with 53% of likely voters vs. 40% for Republican Steve Lonegan”
